At this new development in Caufield South, Three C Architects specified Swiss GriP Aqua Floorline as the slip-resistant concrete floor coating. The goal of the architect was to make all concrete stair treads safe and compliant to the Australian Building Code.
The polished concrete stairs at this commercial development look great but were not compliant with two Australian Standards. First of all, AS 1428 states that all stairs require stair nosing with a visual contrast of at least 30% set against the original stair tread surface. Secondly, the stairs treads need to achieve a P3 slip-rating in accordance to AS 4663-2013.
Stair Nosing
Using Swiss GriP Aqua Floorline as stair nosing has several advantages over using metal stair nosing or strips. To start with, our coating does not require any drilling which is required with metal stair nosing. Furthermore, Swiss GriP Aqua Floorline create a seamless, visually superior nosing strip. But most importantly, it creates a durable slip-resistant stair nosing strip that does not peel like strips that are glued on.
