The Show Court Arena is an under-construction tennis stadium located in Melbourne Park in Melbourne. The arena is scheduled to open before the 2022 Australian Open. Upon completion, it will seat 5,000 spectators and be the fourth-largest tennis venue at Melbourne Park. Swiss GriP was specified to create Non-Slip Vomitory Signs to protect visitors against slips and falls.
The construction of Show Court Arena was the most prominent component of the redevelopment of Melbourne Park which started in 2017. The overall cost of the Arena came in at $271.5 million. It is a multi-purpose 5,000-seat sunken stadium, with a new elevated outdoor public space, a function and media centre, broadcast studios, central kitchen, loading dock and logistics hub.
Fans will find their way around the courts easier with new and improved pathways, new scoreboards and signage. The vomitory signs will show future visitors their seat allocation in the Arena. The sings are made of embossed acrylic and Swiss GriP was commissioned by the manufacturer of the signs to make them comply with the Australian Safety Standards for Slip-Resistance (AS 4586-2013).
Besides a minimum P4 slip-rating, the black and white signs could not be altered. Therefore, Swiss GriP was the perfect solution as it is completely transparent and UV-resistant. Moreover, our Swiss-made, water-based polyurethane coating has exceptional adhesion to acrylic surfaces. And most importantly our coating is independently certified by CSIRO-Australia with a P4/P5 slip-rating.
In total we made 723 vomitory signs non-slip. Our Swiss-made coating was professionally applied by our technical manager at our facility in South Melbourne. The coating was applied with an HVLP spray machine, assuring a perfect finish and the best possible slip-resistance.
